Kensington Prairie Farm
Have you ever wanted to see an Alpaca? I have. So, I headed out to the Kensington Prairie Farm where there was a farm full of adorable lovable alpacas. There is a store onsite so after your tour you can purchase yourself a nice warm alpaca shawl or a novelty item like a pen with an alpaca on the top.
The Kensington Prairie Farm is not only known for sheltering alpacas but also for selling their meat. They offer up alpaca sausages for those who are daring enough to try. However, if you're not keen on eating one, you can always just walk around the farm and interact with the alpacas. I found some of them social and some curious. We tried to interact with them for two hours.
One of the most interesting thing we found out about alpacas is that they love little dogs. There was a group of people who came sauntering down the lane with a little dog which the alpacas came running to with curiosity. They couldn't get enough of the little dog as it ran around from left to right keeping the alpacas attention the whole time. It almost felt like they wanted to play with him.
Alpacas can be very skittish if you make a lot of sudden moves or speak in loud tones. They are calm, reserved animals who seem to have trust issues. However, once you have it, they are the most amazing animals. They chew like cows, have bad dental and have silly hair cuts. If you show them some love, they can make a great pet.
If you're looking for some alpaca love, head down to the Kensington Prairie Farm in Langley. It's worth it! They are open Fri-Sun from 12-4pm. If you would like a private tour, you can contact them to arrange an up-close encounter with these exotic and fun animals!
